Burni's Canadian group placement

Burni is my pick male from the "Sword" litter, born December 22, 2000. Sired by Remy (BIS BISS DC Teine Windmaster of Foxwood, SC) out of my foundation bitch Nikki (Ch. Kristul Sweet Nikita, JC CGC), he and his littermates are a wonderful combination of my ideals for the future here at Gryffyn's Aeyrie. His sister Duri is also here at Gryffyn's Aeyrie.

His name is an extension of my last litter, named for Arthurian novels. Caliburn was another name for Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur.

on the move

At the LSBC BCOA Supported Entry held at the Fort Worth Kennel Club in September 2001, Burni took Best in Sweepstakes under judge Kanne Earl-Bowers (Kilkan Borzoi).  The next day he took Winner's Dog from the Bred-By class for a 3-point major (under judge Elaine Rigden), at only 9 months of age!

Burni earned his JC in January 2002 at the age of 13 months. He has also earned ASFA points in the few trials he has attended.

In September of 2002, Burni provided us with a wonderful thrill, winning Winner's Dog and Best of Winners at the Rocky Mountain Borzoi Club Specialty show in Longmont, CO, earning a 5-point major. The judge was Karen Dumke of Nonsuch Borzoi. He finished his AKC conformation championship in January 2003, by earning his 3rd major under judge Nelson Huber at the Nolan River Kennel Club dog show. He was shown exclusively from the Bred-By Exhibitor classes and is the first of his litter to finish.

Burni receives an Award of Merit at the Borzoi Club of California Specialty
in Lompoc, July 2003

On his way to Canada he stopped in Lompoc, CA and picked up an Award of Merit at the Borzoi Club of California specialty show, under judge Helen Winski Stein. He finished his Canadian championship in the span of a week and took a Group 3 placement on his last day. We were told that a Borzoi hadn't earned a group placement on the island in years.

In November 2003, Burni travelled down to Monterrey, Mexico for a series of shows. He came away with a Mexican Championship, winning Best of Breed 4 times, and getting 1 Group 3 and 3 Group 4 placements.

Burni in the ring with Jill in Mexico

In September 2006 Burni became a father for the first time, bred to Flareon, producing the Metallica litter.

I am so pleased with this big "teddy-bear". He makes friends at ringside and at field events, and sometimes you can even catch him displaying a big goofy grin. He's even garnered compliments from those who would rather not see so much color on their Borzoi.
